Classical Five Element Acupuncture >> Philosophy
The ancient Chinese understood that the fundamental nature of reality is ceaseless change. They observed the cycles of nature around them, and created the Five Element system as a way of explaining how things came into being and how they changed.
The Five Elements are phases in the cycle of life. The root meaning of the Chinese character xing, which we translate as "element," is "action." The five elements could more properly be called "the five actions."
The Five Elements govern both the macrocosm (the world around us) and the microcosm (the world within us). Healing is a process of becoming whole, by living our lives in alignment with the natural cycles that govern our inner nature and connect us to the cosmos. |
